The Gospel Stands on Creation
A lot of people in the world identify themselves as Christians. But in today's society, it usually means they are just cultural Christians. Either that or it means that they do claim to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ, but still believe in theories of men. Where they will believe in evolution, but then believe the rest of the Bible without question. Or they will claim to deny evolution, but still hold to the billions of years set forth by modern scientists. They think Creation vs Evolution doesn't matter so long as we believe in the same Lord.
However, in this sermon, I'm going to tell you why it's not that simple. And why Creation does matter to the message of the gospel. In Genesis chapter 1, the very beginning of the Bible, we see all of Creation laid out for us. On day 1, light was created and divided from darkness. On day 2, the atmosphere was created and divided from the oceans. On day 3, Land and vegetation were created. On day 4, the sun, moon, and stars were created to fill the sky. On day 5, flying animals and sea creatures were created to inhabit the sky and the water. On day 6, land creatures were created, and Man was created too. And on day 7, God rested and stopped creating. It's very clear and laid out for us.
People that hold to Theistic Evolution or so called "Old Earth Creationism" will say there was a gap in time of billions of years between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Where before Genesis 1:2, there was a world God created before the one we live on now that had dinosaurs and neanderthals and that Lucifer was in charge of it. Then when Lucifer fell from grace, God destroyed this "gap world" and then re-created the earth in six 24 hour days. But this theory is nothing but assumption. As there is no clear biblical support for this theory at all. Another theory they hold to is the day-age theory. Where each day is just an eon of millions of years. Now hold your horses, you can't just insert millions of years in between "days" that simply. If there were, then what was God doing between those millions of years. Was he just sitting there doing nothing? Another thing is, old earth creationists believe that there was millions of years of death and suffering before Adam's sin. Not what you call a paradise, is it? So the problem is, the things that were created between these eons known as "days" would have all died by the time the next "day" came around. They argue that when death came into the world, it just meant human death. But why shouldn't that also include animals? If animals are dying in the garden of eden and before then, how is the earth a paradise as it was originally meant to be?
In the New Testament, we also see Jesus himself confirm Creation. He says in Mark 10:6, "But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female". That means that in the very beginning of creation, on the 6th day, man was created. Not billions of years after the beginning of creation. So why is it that Theistic Evolutionists and Old Earth Creationists will not believe Jesus on Creation, but believe everything else? Elsewhere in the New Testament, look what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:55-57. "O death, where is thy sting? O death, where is thy victory?. The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ". These verses clearly say that death is the enemy.
Jesus Christ, God the Son, came down to earth to die on the cross and rise again, to save us from our sins and from death. That was his mission. If death is just a natural part of life, then Jesus' mission was for nothing. At the end of this age, there will be a new heavens and a new earth, where all of creation will be restored, and there will be no more sin and no more death. Therefore, meaning that death of any sort is not what God wanted for his creation, and therefore in the new creation there will be no more sin and no more death.
The message of this sermon is, The Gospel stands on Creation. There's no way around that. Try as you might, there just isn't. Sin and death came into creation because of Adam's sin. But God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, so that whosoever believes will NOT perish, but have everlasting life. The choice is yours. Will you receive Christ and also believe that what He said about creation is true, or will you continue trying to juggle man's theories with the Word of God? It's time for more Christians to say goodbye to the world and its theories, and say yes to what the Word has said about Creation. Thanks for reading this sermon.
