Godly Dragon Ramblings: We Are Society's Slaves
Hey everyone. Welcome to yet another rambling of thoughts that I have had in my head in the current moment. As usual with these ramblings, feel free to take them with a grain of salt. However, this is a realization I've come to and I believe this to be true. And it'll be something that nobody will want to hear. But here goes nothing.
Let's talk about slavery. Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, during the prime of the United States of America, white people owned black people as slaves. Then in the mid 19th century, a civil war broke out between the Democratic South who wanted to keep their slaves and the Republican North who wanted slavery abolished. Needless to say, the Republicans won the civil war, and slavery was abolished. Everyone was finally given American freedom. Or were we...?
What I'm going to say next is going to sound very crazy. Think about your life. Your routine. What are the things that we do consistently, each and every day? Very simply, we eat, work, consume whatever's on TV, on the radio, what's in a video game, and what's in Hollywood, sleep, and repeat. Each and every day, over and over again. We've all fallen prey to this kind of system. I'm mainly talking about the United States, but this applies to other countries as well.
Now, I really like movies and video games myself. I enjoy them as an art form and as a way of entertaining myself. And I really like to review the media that I consume. But think about this. What if all of the things you watch on TV, the games you play, the things you listen to on the radio, and so on, are all part of one big distraction? And not to mention, many things in movies and on TV often have a political message of some sort in order to indoctrinate the masses. And if you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, what should be the most important thing in your life? Jesus, of course. We are supposed to worship Him and praise Him each and every day. Every chance we get.
I mentioned this in a previous rambling, but I'm going to bring it up again. In my first rambling, I brought up the Constitutions of the apostles. And what I realized from it is that whenever they weren't working or sleeping, they would worship the Lord. Church attendance was very strict back in the early church days. Back then, they didn't have all the entertaining distractions we have today. It was just themselves and their worship of the Lord.
In this day and age, there are many distractions. Things we love to watch and play and things we are interested in. But if we don't dedicate ourselves to the Lord enough, we will become slaves to worldly things instead of slaves to God. Think about your earthly accomplishments. Perhaps you got a trophy in a sports competition. Perhaps you finally got that degree you need for that career you really want. Perhaps you've invested hours upon hours getting stronger and stronger in a video game. All of those make you feel like you accomplished something. But these things only have a temporary, meaningless value. Worshiping the Lord has eternal value because God is eternal. And we will be with Him eternally in heaven. But we cannot take any of our things and accomplishments on earth with us to heaven. And so in the end, all earthly things are meaningless.
This is how our society keeps us in its system. If we want a livelihood and if we want more and more things, we are forced to work harder and harder. Society is doing everything it can to enslave us and make us unable to worship God on a daily basis. Our slavery also parallels the slavery of the Hebrews who lived in Egypt. The more the Pharoah saw the Hebrew slaves thinking about their Creator, the more work the Pharoah imposed on them. The Hebrews would cry out to their God and pray for deliverance. And now today, as followers of Christ, we are slaves to the earthly system, having more and more work and distractions imposed on us as we continue to follow the Lord, and we pray and cry out to Christ to deliver us from this evil society, so that we may finally be free.
