Godly Dragon Quickies: Captain Underpants and Wonder Woman
So I went to see a couple of movies recently. And since I am behind schedule, I am just going to review both movies really quickly. I saw two superhero movies that came out the same weekend as each other.
The first movie I went to see was Captain Underpants. When I was in grade school I loved Captain Underpants. They were a goofy series of books made for children. The humor was immature, but it also had wit and creativity on its own. But I stopped reading Captain Underpants after the 8th epic novel because by the time they made new ones after that, I became too old to read Captain Underpants. I stopped reading Captain Underpants after grade school. I got really excited when I heard they were finally going to make a Captain Underpants movie. So as soon as it came out, I went to go see it.
The movie replicated the style of the books really well and the style of the humor. The movie was based mainly on the first and fourth books of the series, along with elements from the second book. But the mix turned out wonderfully, and it was executed really well. Every second was entertaining and there was never a dull moment. Overall, it's a good movie if you're a fan of Captain Underpants, especially if you grew up with the books. And this movie will introduce Captain Underpants to a new generation. I give Captain Underpants a 4 out of 5. It's family friendly enough as long as you know it's rated PG for a reason. Whether or not it's faith supportive is indeterminate. I find it neutral.
The other movie I saw the same weekend was Wonder Woman. I was really skeptical about this film because DC hasn't been doing a very good job with their movies. But Wonder Woman surprised me. I never was a fan of Wonder Woman so I didn't know much about her. But I was fascinated by her backstory. And the story was also funny and very entertaining without being padded and overbloated. It didn't feel like a chore to sit through. I enjoyed every second. I'd say it's only mildly family friendly, as some scenes may be too dark and intense for little kids. And as far as faith goes, Wonder Woman has a pagan backstory, so I'd say it's faith unsupportive. But aside from that, it was a great movie.
Thanks for listening to these quickies! This was Godly Dragon Reviews and Apologetics, and you have a blessed day!
